President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen have collaboratively aligned their positions during a significant meeting at the Marienborg residence, just ahead of the Nordic-Baltic Eight Leaders’ Meeting. The discussions, held on September 3, 2025, focused on vital aspects of future security architecture, emphasizing defense collaboration and economic sanctions against Russia. The leaders explored continued defense support, particularly enhancing Ukrainian drone production through the successful Danish model. This initiative has already bolstered Ukraine’s defense capabilities. They also discussed the implementation of Ukrainian-Danish weapons production agreements, with Denmark pioneering joint weapons production plants with Ukraine. Both leaders expressed a commitment to deepening this partnership further. Additionally, the meeting addressed the PURL program, with President Zelenskyy expressing gratitude to Denmark for its participation. This initiative has seen NATO member states allocating over $2 billion for the procurement of American weapons. The discussions also touched on Ukraine’s aspirations to join the European Union, with Zelenskyy thanking Frederiksen for supporting the joint advancement of Ukraine and Moldova. A significant portion of the dialogue was devoted to increasing pressure on Russia, with both leaders agreeing on the necessity for the 19th EU sanctions package to include more comprehensive measures against the banking sector and Russia’s shadow fleet.
