Far North Queensland police have successfully detained two teenage boys on multiple property crime charges, following a week-long operation involving several specialized police units. The arrests, made on August 29, form part of a broader initiative aimed at mitigating property crime in the region. A 17-year-old from Manunda was apprehended at a Gordonvale residence and faces 45 charges, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and armed robbery. The teen is alleged to have been involved in a string of crimes over the past month, which included the theft of numerous vehicles and a break-in during which he reportedly threatened a teenage girl for money. He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 2. Another 17-year-old, hailing from Mooroobool, was charged with stealing a white LDV T60 dual cab and a white MG from Wiseman Road. This arrest followed a dramatic police pursuit that ended with the successful deployment of a tyre deflation device. He, too, is detained and set to appear in court on September 4. Detective Inspector Jason Chetham emphasized the police’s commitment to addressing community concerns related to property crimes. “Our officers were relentless in their investigations,” he stated, praising the community’s support and reaffirming law enforcement’s dedication to public safety. This concerted police effort has resulted in 284 arrests and 1,180 charges since August 9, underscoring the authorities’ resolve to tackle crime in the Far North region.
