Ukraine Vows Unyielding Pressure on Russia

In a resolute address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirmed his nation’s stance against Russian aggression, emphasizing the need to maintain pressure on Russia to cease its military activities. Speaking on August 31, 2025, Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine’s steadfast defense efforts, particularly in key sectors such as Donetsk and Pokrovsk, where Ukrainian forces continue to repel the occupiers with active defense measures.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Ukraine’s military units for their resilience and precision, while also outlining the country’s strategic plans to ensure its armed forces are fully equipped for the upcoming autumn. He revealed ongoing diplomatic engagements intended to bolster support from international partners. Despite expectations from some quarters for Russia to pursue peace negotiations, Zelenskyy noted that Russia appears committed to continuing its war efforts, even as global leaders, including those from China, India, and other nations, call for a ceasefire.

The President also acknowledged a recent statement from the Pope and underscored the global consensus against the war, stating that only Russia desires to prolong the conflict. Zelenskyy urged the international community, particularly the United States, Europe, and G20 countries, to adopt a strong stance against Russia’s actions, which he claims destabilize global processes.

In his address, Zelenskyy thanked several countries—such as the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Belgium, and Latvia—for joining Ukraine’s PURL initiative, a special program facilitating weapon purchases for Ukraine’s Defense Forces. The program, which exceeds two billion dollars, is coordinated through NATO and aims to secure effective defense systems, including Patriot and HIMARS missiles, to protect Ukrainian cities.

Additionally, Zelenskyy provided updates on the investigation into the murder of Andriy Parubiy, with reports from Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Head of the Security Service Vasyl Maliuk. The investigation, involving the police, Security Service, and prosecutor’s office, is progressing with all necessary resources deployed. Zelenskyy expressed hope for swift results and extended gratitude to those aiding in the investigation.
