Ukraine and Netherlands Solidify Ties

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Frans Timmermans, leader of the Green-Labour Alliance in the Dutch House of Representatives, to bolster support and cooperation between the two nations. The meeting, held on August 29, 2025, emphasized the Netherlands’ unwavering support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflicts.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the Netherlands’ significant contributions since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, particularly highlighting parliamentary resolutions that have strengthened Ukraine’s military and energy sectors. The President underscored the importance of a Special Tribunal for Russian aggression and lauded the recent NATO Summit, which resulted in a $500 million allocation from the Netherlands for American weapons procurement under the new PURL program.

The discussion also covered strategic topics such as enhancing Ukraine’s air defense and boosting domestic arms production, with a focus on drone manufacturing. As Dutch elections approach, Timmermans reassured that support for Ukraine would remain steadfast, with potential increases anticipated.
