In a developing story from Chinchilla, Queensland, an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an armed robbery at a local tobacco store. The incident occurred on August 23, when the suspect allegedly entered the store on the Warrego Highway armed with a knife and a black backpack, demanding cigarettes from a female employee.

According to police reports, the confrontation escalated as the suspect tore down a screen divider, leaped over the counter, and helped himself to a quantity of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. The employee was unharmed during the incident.

Authorities swiftly acted on the case, executing a search warrant the following day, which led to the suspect’s apprehension and the recovery of the stolen goods. The man, from Chinchilla, faces multiple charges, including robbery and wilful damage. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Dalby Magistrates Court on August 25.
