On August 24, 2025, a solemn prayer for Ukraine was held at the historic Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, marking the country’s Independence Day. The event was attended by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska, alongside a diverse assembly of religious leaders from various faiths. The interfaith gathering featured prayers from prominent religious figures, including the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Epiphanius, and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav. Representing the Muslim community, Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Tamim joined the prayers, while leaders from the Roman Catholic, Evangelical Christian, and Jewish communities also offered their blessings. Participants prayed for peace, freedom, and prosperity in Ukraine, as well as for the release of captives and the healing of the wounded. The event underscored a united front among different religious communities, emphasizing support for Ukraine’s defenders and the nation’s continued resilience.
