In a recent phone conversation, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof discussed developments in security guarantees and joint projects between Ukraine and the Netherlands. The call, which took place on August 23, 2025, also coincided with Ukraine’s National Flag Day, for which Schoof extended his congratulations to the Ukrainian people. During their discussion, both leaders addressed the current diplomatic efforts and outcomes of recent talks held in Washington, D.C. President Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to take constructive steps towards achieving peace, expressing willingness to engage in high-level meetings with Russia. However, both leaders acknowledged Russia’s apparent lack of interest in peace, stressing the need for international pressure to influence its position. A significant portion of the conversation focused on the architecture of security guarantees, a collaborative effort involving Ukraine, the United States, and European partners. Zelenskyy indicated that developments in this area are expected soon, highlighting the importance of the Netherlands’ active role in ensuring security. Furthermore, the leaders explored opportunities for joint projects and investments in Ukraine’s defense production sector. They agreed to prepare agreements and plan a personal meeting to advance these initiatives in the near future.
