In a significant breakthrough, Queensland Police have charged a 28-year-old man from East Ipswich in connection with a destructive fire at a Capalaba tobacconist. The incident, which took place on August 11, saw the alleged arsonist use an angle grinder to break into the store before setting it ablaze. The arrest follows a detailed investigation by Taskforce Masher, along with various Criminal Investigation Branches (CIB) from Ipswich, Bayside, and Wynnum. A search conducted at the suspect’s residence on August 14 led to the discovery and seizure of clothing and the angle grinder believed to be used in the crime. The accused is scheduled to appear in Cleveland Magistrate’s Court on September 23. The case forms part of a broader initiative by Taskforce Victor Masher to tackle a surge in crimes targeting vape and tobacco outlets across Queensland, with ongoing investigations monitoring potential links to organized crime groups. Queensland Police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities to aid in their efforts to curb such offenses. The community’s vigilance remains vital as authorities work to maintain safety and order. Post navigation Death in Custody Sparks Inquiry
