In an effort to enhance safety along the Kedron Brook Bikeway, Queensland Police have initiated Operation X-ray Stamp. This operation, running throughout August, aims to curb illegal and dangerous use of e-scooters and e-bikes by implementing proactive high-visibility and targeted patrols.

The focus is on educating children and parents about the legal responsibilities and potential consequences of misusing personal mobility devices (PMDs). Senior Sergeant Saskia Toohey emphasized the importance of safety, highlighting issues such as unlicensed driving, speeding, and illegal modifications. She clarified that for an e-bike or e-scooter to be legal, pedals must be the primary power source, and motors should not exceed 250 watts.

Operation X-ray Stamp collaborates with local high schools to promote safety education and investigate reports of illegal PMD use. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) encourages community members to report unsafe practices, with the possibility of fines or confiscation of non-compliant devices as enforcement measures.

Police urge parents to familiarize themselves with PMD rules and work with their children to ensure compliance, aiming to prevent injuries and save lives. Community involvement is encouraged to maintain safety for all bikeway users.
