Samsung Electronics has claimed the top spot in the prestigious AI Cyber Challenge (AIxCC), the world’s largest AI security technology competition organized by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The finals took place at the renowned DEF CON 33 conference in Las Vegas on August 8, 2025. The competition, featuring a total prize pool of $22.5 million, saw participation from universities, research institutions, and global tech companies. Samsung participated as Team Atlanta, a collaborative effort led by Samsung Research alongside experts from prominent institutions including Georgia Tech and Korea’s KAIST and POSTECH. Over two years, the challenge narrowed down from 42 semifinalists to seven finalists. Team Atlanta distinguished itself by detecting an unintended vulnerability during the semifinals, showcasing superior AI security capabilities. The finals tested teams on their ability to analyze source code vulnerabilities and apply AI-driven security patches autonomously. Taesoo Kim, VP of Samsung Research, led Team Atlanta to victory, winning $4 million. Kim emphasized ongoing collaboration with global security experts to enhance Samsung’s security technologies. Building on this success, Samsung aims to develop AI-powered solutions that can autonomously identify and address security vulnerabilities, bolstering product and service security.
