Brisbane’s Operation Marshall has led to the seizure of 13 weapons and charges against more than 30 individuals following amendments to Jack’s Law on July 18. The operation, conducted by Queensland Police, aims to curb the unlawful possession of edged weapons through planned and random wanding operations in public areas.

On August 3, the Inala Tactical Crime Squad detained a 26-year-old man in Oxley, allegedly carrying a knife with a single hand release blade. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, the man is scheduled to appear before the Richlands Magistrates Court on August 22. Similarly, a 13-year-old was apprehended at a Mount Ommaney shopping center with two knives, facing charges under the Youth Justice Act.

Additional arrests include a 34-year-old man found with a knuckle duster at a Macleay Island ferry terminal and a 43-year-old man discovered with a Stanley knife at a Cleveland hotel. Both individuals face charges of unlawful possession and are awaiting court proceedings.

The initiative reflects a broader effort within Queensland, where over 133,970 scans have resulted in more than 1,260 weapon seizures and 3,380 charges since April 6, 2023. Brisbane alone has seen over 33,650 scans, seizing more than 300 weapons and resulting in 890 charges, highlighting the operation’s significant impact on public safety.
