In a decisive move to enhance public safety, North Rockhampton Police have charged two men with knife possession offences following a series of wanding operations at local shopping centres. These high-visibility patrols, initiated earlier this month, employ handheld metal detectors to uncover concealed weapons in public areas. The operation has seen a total of 260 wandings conducted across shopping centres and Safe Night Precincts, resulting in the seizure of two knives. Among those charged are a 38-year-old man from Walterhall and a 32-year-old man from Park Avenue. Both are expected to appear before the Rockhampton Magistrates Court next month. Senior Sergeant Kain Brown, Officer in Charge at North Rockhampton Station, stated, “We are committed to preventing knife crime and ensuring our community can spend time in public spaces safely.” The police emphasize the importance of leaving work knives in vehicles before entering public areas, warning that carrying a weapon in a public space is an offence. The community is encouraged to report any suspicious activities through Policelink or Crime Stoppers, as the police continue their efforts to deter such crimes and maintain public safety.
