In a significant ceremony held today in Brisbane, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) welcomed 125 new First Year Constables (FYCs) who completed their rigorous training at the QPS Academy. This newest cohort is set to enhance frontline policing with a commitment to integrity and community service.

The diverse group of graduates spent 36 weeks undergoing comprehensive training covering theoretical and operational policing, community engagement, ethical decision-making, and cultural competency. Among them are individuals transitioning from varied careers such as education, defense, and science, hailing from countries including China, New Zealand, and Samoa.

Acting Commissioner Shane Chelepy commended the graduates for their dedication and readiness to serve. “Today’s graduates have shown exemplary character and capability,” he stated, emphasizing the trust they now carry from the Queensland community. The new officers will soon be deployed across the state to support local policing and public safety initiatives.

FYC Zara Allen, one of the graduates, expressed her enthusiasm about joining the Bundaberg community. As a former rugby player, she highlighted the importance of diversity in policing and her commitment to mentoring young women entering the field.

The QPS encourages those interested in a policing career to attend the upcoming Open Days in Brisbane and Townsville to learn more about the opportunities within the Service.
