In a plenary session held on July 9, members of the European Parliament (MEPs) evaluated crucial topics including the European Council’s June meeting outcomes, the long-term EU budget, and EU-US trade relations. The session was attended by notable figures such as European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The meeting began with an assessment of the European Council’s discussions, focusing on Ukraine, defense, and competitiveness. MEPs then shifted their focus to the EU’s long-term financial framework post-2027, emphasizing the need for a more ambitious budget beyond the current 1% spending ceiling of the EU-27’s gross national income.

Trade relations between the EU and the US were also on the agenda, with Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič leading the discussions. A press conference spearheaded by Bernd Lange, Chair of the International Trade Committee, provided insights into the ongoing negotiations.

The session further included debates on EU preparations for wildfires and droughts, lessons from Budapest Pride, and human rights issues involving cases in Dubai and the Central African Republic. Votes were cast on several reports and proposals, including those related to EU accession progress and climate law revisions.
