In a significant crackdown on organised crime, Europol has assisted French and Spanish authorities in dismantling a major migrant smuggling network operating between Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. The operation, which took place from June 13 to 16, 2025, resulted in seven arrests and multiple seizures including vehicles and cash. The criminal network, believed to have facilitated the illegal entry of approximately 1,000 migrants into the European Union, primarily smuggled individuals of Algerian and Moroccan origin. The network’s operations were characterized by sophisticated logistics and planning, with smuggling routes extending from Spain across Western Europe and back through the English Channel. Authorities discovered 38 instances of smuggling tied to this network and linked an additional 100 incidents dating back to 2021. The coordinated effort led to the arrest of seven individuals, four in Spain and three in France. Law enforcement agencies also conducted house searches, leading to the seizure of four vehicles, over EUR 50,000 in various currencies, and electronic devices. The network’s leader, based in Paris, was in regular contact with UK-based accomplices who transported migrants in dangerous conditions across the Channel. Europol played a crucial role by facilitating information exchange and providing operational coordination and analytical support. This operation highlights the adaptability and cross-border reach of organised crime networks and underscores the need for continued international cooperation to combat such threats effectively.
