In a significant law enforcement operation, Queensland Police charged a 42-year-old man with multiple offenses following an incident involving a stolen motorcycle in Mount Gravatt on June 24. The suspect was observed driving on the wrong side of Logan Road, prompting a swift response from the Upper Mount Gravatt Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at approximately 8pm when the officer intercepted the alleged stolen Yamaha motorcycle, which was carrying two passengers. Upon being stopped at a traffic light, the driver attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended with the help of bystanders. The man, identified as a resident of Wishart, now faces charges including five counts of serious assault on a police officer and two counts of dangerous vehicle operation. Additionally, he has been charged with drug possession and other offenses and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 25.

A 31-year-old female passenger from Upper Mount Gravatt was also charged with assaulting a police officer and is scheduled to appear in court on July 8. South Brisbane District Inspector Stephen Gough emphasized the risks associated with dangerous driving, stating, “There is zero excuse for unsafe driving behaviors. Such acts endanger not only the driver but every road user.”

The Queensland Police Service continues to highlight road safety, noting an uptick in fatalities in Brisbane’s south this year. As of June 24, 15 lives have been lost, underscoring the importance of adhering to road safety measures and avoiding the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors.
