Moreton District police have launched a new initiative, Operation Tip, in response to a concerning rise in road fatalities, with ten lives lost in the district this year alone. The operation, starting on June 23 and running until July 25, aims to curb fatal and serious injury crashes by focusing on high-risk crash sites. Acting Superintendent Craig White emphasized that the operation will address key issues identified through road safety data analysis, including drug and drink driving, and rural road collision rates. “Serious road trauma remains a significant safety issue, and it’s crucial for police to enforce, educate, and target dangerous driving behaviors,” White asserted. Operation Tip will involve highly visible, proactive patrols and intercepts across the Moreton district. On its first day, police intercepted a 62-year-old Banksia Beach man who allegedly tested positive for a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent, resulting in a charge and an upcoming court appearance. The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing road trauma by tackling the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors: speeding, impaired driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. With 136 road fatalities in Queensland this year, police urge the community to contribute to safer roads by making responsible driving decisions.
