In a powerful display of global solidarity, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska highlighted the nation’s commitment to humanitarian efforts at the “Charitable Ukraine” awards, held on June 20, 2025. The event celebrated outstanding charitable initiatives and recognized Ukraine as a global hub for volunteerism and philanthropy. During the ceremony, Zelenska expressed gratitude towards Ukrainian and international volunteers, emphasizing their critical role alongside the country’s defenders. “Self-organization and cooperation to help others have become a true superpower of our time and of all of Ukraine,” she remarked. The First Lady also showcased the achievements of the Olena Zelenska Foundation, which has made substantial contributions since its inception during the full-scale invasion. The Foundation’s projects have equipped 17 shelters in educational institutions, established Schools of Superheroes in six hospitals, and provided 65,000 students in frontline regions with gadgets for online learning. Additionally, it has assisted 15 large foster families displaced by conflict, restored a stadium in Hostomel, and commenced the reconstruction of a children’s center in Borodyanka. Zelenska noted, “Each of these projects is not about buildings or repairs. It is about children. About their safety, support, access to education, about their right to dream and to be heard while we defend our country.” Now in its 18th year, the “Charitable Ukraine” competition received a record 1,700 applications across 27 categories, spanning healthcare, education, culture, environment, and defense. This annual event continues to spotlight the resilience and compassion of Ukraine’s vibrant volunteer community.
