BRUSSELS — The European Parliament is set to conduct significant votes on a series of crucial topics today, including a resolution on the Clean Industrial Deal and the EU’s first-ever rules on the welfare of cats and dogs.

The Clean Industrial Deal initiative, introduced by the Commission in February, seeks to enhance industrial competitiveness through regulatory simplification, accelerated permitting procedures, and permanent carbon removals. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will vote on this resolution at noon, aiming to bolster sustainability efforts within the industry.

Additionally, MEPs will vote on draft legislation concerning standards for the breeding, housing, and handling of dogs and cats, the first of its kind in the EU. The legislation covers microchipping, registration, and import regulations, as well as guidelines on inbreeding and pregnancy spacing.

The parliamentary session will also address the EU enlargement process amidst current geopolitical challenges and conduct discussions on the UK’s accession to the 2019 Hague Judgments Convention. The convention aims to facilitate the recognition and enforcement of court decisions among its member parties.

Live coverage of the plenary session is available on the Parliament’s webstreaming site and EbS+.
