Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are gearing up for a critical debate ahead of the NATO summit scheduled for June 24-26, 2025, in The Hague, Netherlands. The discussion, set to begin at 09:00, will be led by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. MEPs are expected to outline their expectations for the summit, with a particular focus on increasing defense spending amid Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine and U.S. President Donald Trump’s calls for Europe to bolster its defense commitments.

In addition to defense, the Parliament will also address the Clean Industrial Deal, an initiative aimed at enhancing European industrial competitiveness. During an afternoon debate, MEPs will engage with Commission Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné on measures such as regulatory simplification and promoting permanent carbon removals. A draft resolution will be voted on Thursday.

The day’s agenda includes discussions on human rights and rule of law issues across several countries, including Hungary, Spain, Georgia, Iran, and Mali. These debates will be critical as the EU assesses its stance on respecting European values and human rights.

Votes on significant reports and assistance measures, including macro-financial support to Egypt and assessments of EU accession progress for Montenegro and Moldova, are also scheduled. Live coverage of the session can be accessed via the Parliament’s web streaming site.
