In a coordinated operation across Europe, law enforcement agencies have taken down ‘Archetyp Market,’ the longest-standing dark web drug marketplace, Europol announced. The operation, which took place between June 11 and June 13, 2025, involved authorities from six countries and resulted in the arrest of the platform’s administrator in Spain, along with the seizure of assets totaling EUR 7.8 million.

The crackdown targeted the marketplace’s infrastructure and key figures, including one moderator and six of its top vendors. Archetyp Market had been operational for over five years, facilitating the anonymous trade of illicit drugs such as cocaine, MDMA, amphetamines, and synthetic opioids, including fentanyl. The marketplace boasted over 600,000 users and a transaction volume exceeding EUR 250 million, making it one of the most prolific and enduring platforms of its kind.

Europol, in collaboration with Eurojust, provided critical support throughout the investigation, organizing coordination meetings and facilitating the exchange of vital information among participating agencies. The operation was spearheaded by the German authorities and marks a significant blow against online drug trafficking networks, echoing the takedowns of notorious predecessors like Dream Market and Silk Road.

Jean-Philippe Lecouffe, Europol’s Deputy Executive Director of Operations, stated that the dismantling of Archetyp Market sends a strong message to those engaged in illegal activities on the dark web: “There is no safe haven for those who profit from harm.” The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of international law enforcement to combat the digital drug trade and disrupt the supply lines of dangerous substances.

Further information about the operation and its impact on the underground economy can be found online, as the authorities continue to pursue those responsible for facilitating and profiting from illegal activities on the dark web.
