In a significant diplomatic gathering, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hosted a trilateral meeting with Moldova’s President Maia Sandu and Romania’s President Nicușor Dan on June 11, 2025. The meeting, held in a trilateral format for the first time, aimed to bolster cooperation across security, energy, and economic sectors.

The leaders discussed a range of critical issues, including regional security, hybrid threats, and cybersecurity, as well as energy security and cross-border cooperation. Emphasizing the importance of Moldova’s stability for regional security, the discussions also covered strengthening sanctions against Russia to enforce a just peace.

Ukraine proposed the appointment of coordinators at the level of Foreign Ministers to enhance ongoing diplomatic engagement. Furthermore, the talks highlighted joint aspirations for European Union membership, with Zelenskyy affirming the unity of Ukraine and Moldova in this endeavor.

Infrastructure development was also a focal point, with plans for a new highway and enhanced railway connectivity between the three nations discussed. The meeting underscored a commitment to countering Russian hybrid threats, particularly in the Black Sea region, and reinforced the necessity of collective regional defense strategies.
