A 21-year-old man from Highfields has been fined over $1,800 and had his driver’s license suspended after being caught speeding and driving under the influence in Torrington, Queensland. The incident occurred on June 3, when police conducting mobile patrols on Carrington Road observed the man driving a blue Honda CRV at 135 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. Upon interception, the driver was found to have a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .117%, significantly over the legal limit. As a result, he received a fine of $1,854, incurred eight demerit points, and faced a six-month suspension of his driver’s license. Senior Sergeant Kim Hill, Officer in Charge of Highway Patrol Toowoomba, emphasized the dangers of such reckless behavior, stating, “When someone decides to drive at high speeds while under the influence of alcohol, they not only put their own life at risk but other road users.” Hill reiterated the commitment of the Queensland Police Service to road safety, highlighting ongoing efforts to deter the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors, including speeding and drink driving. The Queensland Police continue to prioritize road safety, with initiatives aimed at reducing incidents of road trauma through visible enforcement and community education on safe driving practices.
