In a recent phone call, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz discussed pivotal outcomes from Zelenskyy’s recent visit to Berlin. The conversation focused on the implementation of agreements reached during the visit, with particular attention to matters of international diplomacy and regional security.

During the call, President Zelenskyy shared insights from a second meeting in Istanbul, highlighting a significant achievement: the exchange of prisoners. He emphasized the Ukrainian delegation’s persistent efforts towards establishing an unconditional ceasefire, the return of displaced children, and facilitating a high-level meeting. However, Zelenskyy expressed concerns over Russia’s continued reluctance to end the conflict.

The Ukrainian leader underscored the necessity of strong sanctions from international partners to influence the Russian Federation’s stance. Looking ahead, Zelenskyy outlined Ukraine’s expectations for the upcoming G7 Summit in Canada, scheduled for June 15–17, and expressed gratitude to Chancellor Merz for Germany’s ongoing support of Ukraine.
