President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has lauded the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) for their successful execution of Operation “Spiderweb,” a strategic military operation that inflicted significant damage on Russian military assets. During a ceremony on June 4, 2025, Zelenskyy acknowledged the efforts of the SSU warriors by presenting them with state honors. The SSU’s meticulously planned operation, which took over a year and a half to prepare, targeted Russian strategic aviation on their territory. The operation resulted in the damaging of 41 military aircraft, including Tu-22M3, Tu-95MC, and Tu-95 bombers, key assets used for launching cruise missiles at Ukraine. The estimated damage exceeds USD 7 billion, marking a substantial impact on Russia’s military capabilities. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s right to defend itself against aggression, citing international law and human common sense as the foundations for their actions. He highlighted the significance of the operation in restoring justice and exerting pressure towards achieving real peace. The President awarded several military honors, including the Order of the Golden Star of the Hero of Ukraine, to recognize the courage and proficiency demonstrated by the SSU warriors. The operation, Zelenskyy noted, not only demonstrated Ukraine’s resilience but also sent a clear message of accountability to Russia. As tensions continue, Ukraine remains committed to defending its sovereignty and seeking justice through strategic and well-coordinated efforts.
