In a recent statement, the Council on Human Rights, Gender Equality and Diversity at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine underscored the critical importance of the immediate return of Ukrainian children who have been illegally deported or forcibly transferred by the Russian Federation. The statement follows a joint meeting with the initiative Bring Kids Back UA, which is supported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Highlighting violations of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, the Council called for intensified international pressure on Russia. The statement decries actions such as forced displacement, Russification, and adoption of Ukrainian children by Russian citizens. It emphasized that the return of these children is not only a humanitarian obligation but also an act of justice and a crucial step for Ukraine’s future.

The Council affirmed its commitment to the global campaign for the return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of affected children. It urged international partners to continue advocacy efforts at key platforms like the United Nations and the Council of Europe. The statement also recognized the efforts of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in investigating these issues.

Furthermore, the Council expressed gratitude towards international bodies like UNICEF and supportive nations, reiterating the necessity of keeping children’s rights at the forefront of the international agenda. They stressed that ensuring the rights of every child is vital for achieving lasting peace and restoring human dignity.
