A man in Tansey near Gympie has been fined over $1800 and lost 8 demerit points after being caught driving 96 kilometers over the speed limit. The incident occurred on May 28 when police conducting patrols along the Burnett Highway spotted a black BMW traveling at high speed around 4:50 pm. The 26-year-old driver from McIntosh Creek was clocked at 196 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone before being pulled over.

Superintendent Janelle Andrews from the Road Policing and Regional Support Command emphasized the danger of such excessive speeds, stating that it endangers all road users. She reminded drivers of the importance of responsible driving, especially on Fatality Free Friday. The Queensland Police Service aims to reduce road fatalities by educating drivers about the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction.

The police are committed to ensuring road safety for all users and urge everyone to take responsibility for their actions behind the wheel. Drivers are encouraged to learn more about staying safe on Queensland roads and to avoid risky behaviors that could lead to accidents. Anyone witnessing dangerous driving behavior is urged to report it to the authorities using the provided contact information.
