During a meeting in Berlin, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz discussed crucial diplomatic opportunities aimed at bringing peace closer and increasing pressure on Russia. The discussions also focused on strengthening air defense capabilities and investing in Ukrainian drone production. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of preserving the rules-based international order to maintain normal life for people. The President highlighted the need for an unconditional ceasefire without preconditions to end the ongoing conflict fueled by Russia’s aggression. Both leaders underscored the significance of applying all forms of pressure on Russia and continuing to reinforce sanctions as a means to deter further aggression. Germany pledged continued military support to Ukraine to defend against Russian hostilities, with a focus on strengthening air defense systems and providing weapons for the Ukrainian army. The meeting also resulted in agreements on joint production initiatives, including investments in drone manufacturing in Ukraine. Additionally, representatives from both governments signed agreements related to construction and the development of production facilities. Zelenskyy and Merz agreed to renew intergovernmental cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, aiming to enhance joint efforts across various areas. The upcoming intergovernmental consultations, scheduled for the end of the year, will mark the first such meeting since 2004.
