The recent “Education of a New Ukraine” conference in Kyiv highlighted the Ukrainian government’s commitment to creating safe learning environments and upgrading educational infrastructure. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced a substantial investment of over 22.5 billion UAH in education transformation for the years 2024-2025. This investment has already led to the construction of 15 schools with shelters, 126 school kitchens and canteens, and the launch of Ukraine’s first interactive Mathematics Museum. Plans for the current year include opening or renovating more than 1,500 educational spaces, including modern laboratories, and constructing two new university campuses in Kyiv and Mykolaiv. During the conference, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized the importance of providing confidence in the future for every child, teacher, and community through education. The Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Olena Kovalska, highlighted the government’s focus on safety in educational spaces, particularly in schools equipped with shelters. Kovalska noted the challenges faced by the education system due to demographic decline and population outflow, but stressed the government’s dedication to reforms and ensuring high-quality education for all. In addition to creating safe educational spaces, the Ukrainian government is also promoting educational initiatives such as the Twinning program, which encourages young people to pursue dual-degree programs between UK and Ukrainian universities. The event was organized by the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science, showcasing the collaborative efforts to enhance the education sector in the country.
