President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine commemorated the bravery and sacrifices of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SOF) on their Professional Holiday. The President met with SOF warriors and families of fallen Heroes, presenting state awards in honor of their service. The newly established Day of the Special Operations Forces, to be celebrated annually on May 27, pays tribute to their exceptional contributions.

President Zelenskyy recalled the heroic liberation of Donetsk airport from militants as a defining moment in SOF history. He praised the SOF’s swift and effective operations, highlighting their vital role in various military operations across Ukraine. The President expressed gratitude for their dedication and emphasized the nation’s unwavering support for these courageous warriors.

During the ceremony, the President awarded Orders of the Golden Star to families of fallen Heroes and recognized the outstanding service of another SOF warrior. These individuals demonstrated exceptional bravery and skill in challenging combat situations, defending Ukrainian territories against enemy forces. Additionally, 14 defenders received prestigious state awards for their courage and commitment to protecting Ukraine.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Minister of Defense, and Commander of the Special Operations Forces. President Zelenskyy’s tribute to the SOF underscored Ukraine’s deep appreciation for their sacrifices and dedication to safeguarding the nation’s independence. The memory of the fallen warriors was honored with a moment of silence, symbolizing the country’s enduring gratitude for their service.
