A delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development is set to visit the Jämtland Härjedalen region in Central Sweden from May 26 to May 28. The purpose of the trip is to gain insights into the region’s use of cohesion funds and to explore regional innovation and sustainability initiatives, as well as cross-border cooperation in sparsely populated areas. During the three-day visit, the MEPs will engage with local representatives from Östersund and the Jämtland Härjedalen region. They will also visit Mid Sweden University and an electronic aircraft testing arena to learn about local research and development activities. Additionally, the itinerary includes a visit to the Gaaltije South Sami Cultural Centre and meetings with stakeholders from the tourism industry and other small businesses. The main objective of the trip is to assess how the EU can better support the region’s needs through cohesion policy and to discuss the role of regional development in the upcoming proposal for the EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034. The delegation will be led by Vladimir Prebilič from the Greens/EFA party, with participation from Tsvetelina Penkova and Sofie Eriksson from the S&D party. For more information, interested parties can contact Press Officers Therese Domisch and Olivia Govik in Sweden, or Janne Ojamo in Belgium. The visit aims to strengthen ties between the European Parliament and the region, focusing on collaboration and development opportunities.
