The European Parliament is set to have several committee delegations travel to different parts of the world in the upcoming week of May 26 to June 1, 2025. These delegations will focus on a range of issues including international trade, security and defense, migration, foreign affairs, and housing crisis. An International Trade Committee delegation will be heading to Washington DC to discuss EU-US political, trade, and investment relations. The MEPs will engage with various US administration departments, lawmakers, business organizations, and major EU businesses active in the US to address trade tensions and recent tariffs. In Norway, a Security and Defence Committee delegation will assess Russian activities and threats affecting the North Atlantic and the EU’s eastern flank. Discussions will revolve around NATO cooperation and Norway’s participation in the Security Action for Europe instrument. Meanwhile, a Civil Liberties Committee delegation will visit El Hierro, Canary Islands, to understand the challenges posed by increased irregular arrivals of migrants. The MEPs will meet with local authorities, judicial bodies, and civil society organizations to address these issues. Additionally, a Foreign Affairs Committee delegation will travel to Uruguay and Argentina to discuss the Mercosur agreement and geopolitical issues such as Russia’s war against Ukraine and China’s influence in Latin America. MEPs will engage with government representatives and local authorities to gain insights into political cooperation. MEPs from the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the EU will visit Barcelona to gather information on how the city is tackling housing challenges due to the rise in short-term rentals. The delegation will meet with governments, social actors, and research institutions to address these issues. In addition to these committee travels, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will be delivering keynote speeches in Ohio and Italy during the week. The President’s engagements include addressing various assemblies, visiting institutions, and participating in discussions on critical topics. Overall, the week ahead for the European Parliament will be filled with important committee meetings and official visits to address pressing global issues and strengthen international cooperation.
