President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Greece Discuss Increased Pressure on Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently engaged in a phone call with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, where they discussed the heightened sanctions pressure on Russia and reiterated support for Ukraine. During the conversation, Zelenskyy updated Mitsotakis on his diplomatic efforts with European leaders and U.S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing the urgent need to intensify pressure on Russia due to the lack of genuine efforts from Russia to end the ongoing conflict. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the 17th package of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia and called for further restrictions in energy, banking sectors, and the shadow tanker fleet, as well as a reduction in the oil price cap.

In response, Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece’s support for implementing practical measures to strengthen sanctions on Russia. He also highlighted the importance of continuing to support Ukraine, including its defense-industrial sector and air defense, expressing readiness to provide assistance. Zelenskyy extended an invitation to Mitsotakis to participate in the upcoming Ukraine – Southeast Europe Summit, to which the Greek Prime Minister confirmed his attendance. The dialogue between the two leaders reflects a unified stance on the need to escalate pressure on Russia while providing unwavering support to Ukraine in its efforts for security and stability.
