State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers in Townsville were celebrated at the annual SES Regional Award Ceremony, where eight dedicated volunteers and two units were honored for their exceptional service. The ceremony, held last Friday, recognized individuals who demonstrated outstanding contributions and commitment to their duties.

Among the recipients was sixty-nine-year-old Stephen Weise, who received the Regional Member of the Year award for his distinguished service in 2024. Additional accolades were presented to Dori Westwood, Ian Cameron, Ivan Bates, Madison Marshall, Rose Carney, Nicole Bradley, Charters Towers Unit, Burketown, and Micah Graffin from Townsville, who received the Young Member of the Year Award for his efforts during Tropical Cyclone Kirrily in 2024 at the age of 16.

Acting Police Commissioner Shane Chelepy commended the SES volunteers for their selfless service and dedication to protecting and supporting communities during times of crisis. Northern Region SES Director, Mr. Daryl Camp ESM, emphasized the importance of recognizing the volunteers and their significant contributions to community safety and resilience.

The winners of the Northern Region awards will be nominated for the state awards, with select recipients attending a ceremony in Brisbane on August 23, 2025.
