Kingaroy police have charged four men and a woman with a combined total of 69 charges following a series of property and vehicle thefts across the Darling Downs and South West Districts in Queensland. The arrests came after a thorough investigation by detectives, who were called to a property in Memerambi on April 30. At the location, they found a 36-year-old man riding a stolen quad bike. Subsequent searches of the property and nearby forest led to the discovery of additional stolen items, including a caravan that had been reported stolen from Kilcoy. Further investigations led the police to track stolen vehicles to various locations, resulting in the recovery of stolen firearms, ammunition, drugs, and other stolen property. The recovered items were linked to thefts from multiple properties in the region between March and May. A total of five individuals were arrested and charged with various offenses including theft, possession of stolen property, possession of dangerous drugs, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. They are scheduled to appear in court on different dates in the coming months. The Officer in Charge of Kingaroy’s Criminal Investigation Branch, Detective Sergeant Scott Prendergast, commended the efforts of the investigative team and emphasized the importance of property security to prevent thefts in the community. The police investigation into the matter is ongoing. Operation Whiskey Firestorm, a statewide initiative focused on firearm safety and illicit firearms, has been launched in response to the recent rise in firearm-related offenses. The operation aims to ensure proper firearm storage and compliance with regulations among licensed firearm owners to enhance community safety. For those with information related to the case or any suspicious activities, Queensland Police urge the public to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously. Additionally, the QPS will be conducting audits and regional operations to address firearm-related offenses and ensure compliance with safety measures.
