In a significant diplomatic move, a Ukrainian delegation led by top officials from Ukraine met with representatives from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France in Istanbul. The meeting, held on 16 May 2025, aimed to coordinate positions ahead of discussions between Ukrainian and Russian delegations. The Ukrainian team, including Andriy Yermak, Andrii Sybiha, and Rustem Umerov, emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to peace efforts and readiness for negotiations. During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation reiterated their willingness to achieve a full and unconditional ceasefire for at least 30 days, as well as engage in direct talks with Russian counterparts at the highest level. They highlighted the importance of confidence-building measures such as the return of displaced civilians and a comprehensive exchange of prisoners of war for the success of peace efforts. The Head of the President’s Office stressed the need for clarity on the Russian side’s readiness for genuine ceasefire and direct talks. The Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude to the U.S., U.K., Germany, and France for their support in advancing the peace process and emphasized the role of Türkiye in providing a diplomatic platform for negotiations. The Ukrainian officials underlined the importance of constructive steps from the Russian side and acknowledged Türkiye’s efforts in creating conducive conditions for dialogue.
