Detectives from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are seeking public assistance in relation to a series of suspicious fires that occurred in Mareeba on May 10. The incidents, which took place at various locations in the area, have raised concerns in the community. The first fire was reported in the yard of a Walsh Street address at around 7am, where a mattress was found ablaze. Fortunately, emergency services were able to extinguish the fire quickly, and no injuries were reported. Shortly after, at 7.30am, another fire broke out at a house on Couper Street, resulting in minor injuries to the sole occupant. Concurrently, a small fire was also discovered in scrubland near lower Byrnes Street, which was put out by an unidentified individual driving a white utility vehicle. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Byrnes Street, Couper Street, and Walsh Street between 6.50am and 7.30am on the day of the incidents, and may have witnessed any suspicious activity, to come forward with information. Investigations into the fires are ongoing, and any details provided by the public could be crucial in solving the case. The Queensland Police Service is also accepting online submissions of suspicious activity reports 24 hours a day.
