In a recent meeting in Kyiv, Ukraine, the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, met with Andreas Schleicher, the Director for Education and Skills at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The meeting focused on The Future Index project, a study of the well-being of children in Ukraine initiated by the Olena Zelenska Foundation.

During the meeting, Olena Zelenska expressed her gratitude to Andreas Schleicher for his participation in the supervisory board of The Future Index and for his expert support. The project aims to assess various parameters including education, health, safety, and institutional care. Last year, the Future Index in Ukraine scored 0.64 on a scale from 0 to 1, with education, health, and institutional care being identified as areas needing improvement.

Andreas Schleicher’s expertise and recommendations have been instrumental in shaping this year’s survey, “Future Index: Professional Expectations and Vision of Adolescent Development in Ukraine.” Over 5,000 adolescents and an equal number of parents and guardians were surveyed for the new research. The First Lady emphasized the importance of helping children plan for their future, noting that nearly one in five adolescents in Ukraine has not yet considered their career aspirations.

Additionally, Olena Zelenska invited Andreas Schleicher to the upcoming Fifth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv, focusing on education. She expressed her gratitude for his participation in the first summit in 2021 and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting education and well-being.
