Police in Harristown, Queensland are investigating a tragic house fire that occurred early on May 7th as suspicious, which resulted in the death of a nine-year-old boy. The emergency services responded to the blaze at a property on Merritt Street around 12:30 am, where they found the house completely engulfed in flames.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the nine-year-old boy’s body was discovered inside the property, awaiting formal identification. Six other individuals, including a 36-year-old woman, a 34-year-old man, and four children aged four, seven, 11, and 18, managed to escape the fire.

The 36-year-old woman was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital in critical condition, while the 34-year-old man was taken to Toowoomba Base Hospital with serious injuries. The four-year-old and seven-year-old girls were also airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in critical condition. An 18-year-old man received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, and an 11-year-old boy escaped unharmed.

The incident is currently under investigation as part of Operation Xray Paxton, with the house being treated as a crime scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward. Police have clarified that they are not seeking any additional suspects related to the incident, and inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
