In a significant law enforcement operation, the Far North District Police, with support from the State Flying Squad, have successfully charged 206 individuals with a total of 620 offenses following a targeted week-long deployment. The operation, conducted between April 30 and May 6, involved a collaborative effort from various specialized police units focusing on combating high-risk domestic violence, youth crime, property offenses, and road safety violations. Among the 206 individuals charged, 44 were identified as young offenders. One notable incident occurred on May 5, where police responded to a theft and assault case at Lake Street, resulting in the arrest of a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man from Parramatta Park and Cairns North, respectively. The duo faced charges related to robbery, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, assault causing bodily harm, and drug possession, with both being remanded for court appearances. Additionally, officers from the Far North Tactical Crime Squad apprehended four individuals involved in the theft of multiple vehicles, leading to charges against three teenage boys and a 19-year-old man for offenses including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and break and enter. These individuals were denied bail and were scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court and Cairns Magistrates Court. The State Flying Squad’s deployment also highlighted the enforcement of domestic violence laws, resulting in 55 breach of domestic violence order offenses. The operational focus aligned with the commencement of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to safeguard victim-survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.
