Ukraine Honors Memory of Children Lost

On June 4, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska paid tribute to the children who have lost their lives due to Russian aggression. Commemorating the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, they joined grieving families and foreign ambassadors in honoring the young victims.

The poignant ceremony was attended by parents like Iryna Dmytrieva, who lost her four-year-old daughter Liza in a missile strike, and Maksym Kulyk, who mourns his three children killed in Kryvyi Rih. President Zelenskyy emphasized the devastating human toll of the conflict, highlighting the need for justice and a just peace.

First Lady Olena Zelenska offered words of support to bereaved parents, urging them to find strength in their children’s memory. She called on the international community to act, noting that 631 children have been killed since the invasion began, a figure likely incomplete due to limited access to occupied territories.

The solemn event concluded with a moment of silence and the laying of toys at the children’s martyrology wall, a stark reminder of the ongoing tragedy. Initiatives like the “Voices of Children” continue to honor those lost, as Ukraine seeks global support to end the violence.
