Police in Bundaberg are currently investigating an attempted robbery that occurred in Avenell Heights on June 2. According to reports, a 55-year-old man was targeted by an unknown individual while sitting in his vehicle on Mellor Street close to Craft Street.

The victim stated that a white SUV pulled up near him, and the suspect demanded cash after approaching him. Subsequently, the offender sprayed the victim with a flammable liquid and set his shirt on fire. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape the vehicle and remove his burning shirt. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, the offender fled the scene in the white SUV but crashed into the victim’s car while making their escape. Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the interaction between the two vehicles or has relevant information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings to come forward and assist with the investigation.
