EP President Roberta Metsola and other European Parliament leaders visited Copenhagen to discuss the upcoming Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Metsola praised Denmark’s ability to build consensus in uncertain times. The leaders met with Danish government representatives to emphasize the importance of a safe and competitive Europe. Discussions also focused on supporting Ukraine and enhancing Europe’s security. During a joint press conference, Metsola and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stressed the need for a secure and strong Europe, highlighting the shared responsibility for security, particularly in relation to Ukraine. Frederiksen emphasized the importance of addressing common challenges such as migration and high energy prices. The EP President commended Denmark as a pragmatic consensus builder. The Conference of Presidents, responsible for organizing the Parliament’s work, engaged in preparatory discussions with Denmark, as it prepares to assume the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU from July to December 2025.
