NVIDIA announced a record quantum-computing simulation conducted on JUPITER, Europe’s first exascale supercomputer, at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. The company said the work advances research into fault-tolerant quantum computing. The simulation enabled researchers to fully explore and validate “magic state cultivation,” an approach designed to help quantum computers correct errors and operate reliably at scale. According to NVIDIA, the method requires 90% fewer qubits than previous approaches. The company described the result as a record-breaking simulation, but the announcement did not provide additional technical details about the system’s performance or independent verification. JUPITER is being used to investigate demanding scientific and computational workloads, including simulations relevant to the development of future quantum-computing systems.
