The Queensland Police Service is inviting Facebook community and crime-group administrators across the South Moreton Bay Islands to take part in free online training aimed at creating safer and more inclusive digital spaces.

The program is open to moderators and prospective moderators who live or work on Russell, Macleay, Lamb, Coochiemudlo or North Stradbroke islands. The training addresses challenges such as misinformation, heated discussions, privacy concerns and the sharing of reliable safety information.

Developed with the University of Technology Sydney, the Digital Champions program includes beginner and advanced modules, a moderator handbook, practical resources and short videos. Participants can complete the online training at their own pace.

Queensland Police said a pilot involving more than 300 moderators had increased participants’ confidence in applying fair group rules, identifying misinformation and directing members to official reporting channels. Research also found reductions in harmful content and more constructive online discussions.

Interested administrators and moderators can read more about the initiative and submit an expression of interest through the Queensland Police Service website.
