Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz paid tribute to fallen Ukrainian soldiers during Merz’s visit to Kyiv, according to the Ukrainian presidential office.

The two leaders placed memorial candles and honored the dead at the People’s Memorial of National Remembrance on Independence Square.

Zelenskyy said Germany’s presence and support were important to Ukraine during the ongoing war. He expressed gratitude for the “respect for our warriors and solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” and paid tribute to those who died defending Ukraine and Europe.
