Parliament Sets Busy Global Agenda

The European Parliament will conduct diplomatic, economic and policy activities across Europe and North America from May 25 to 31, 2026, including meetings on relations with China, defence cooperation, digital regulation, energy and housing.

A parliamentary delegation will travel to Beijing from Wednesday to Friday for the 43rd EU-China interparliamentary meeting with China’s National People’s Congress. The meeting will be the first held in China since Beijing lifted sanctions against European lawmakers, political bodies, researchers and organisations.

Other delegations will visit the United States, Mexico, Canada, Poland and Ireland. Discussions in the United States will focus on energy, space, technology, artificial intelligence, intellectual property and copyright. In Mexico, European and Latin American lawmakers will mark the 20th anniversary of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly and discuss trade and multilateral cooperation. Canadian meetings will address defence ties, NATO, Ukraine, Arctic security and critical raw materials, while visits to Poland and Ireland will examine defence spending and the housing crisis.

Parliament President Roberta Metsola is scheduled to travel to California, where she will speak at Stanford University and meet technology executives and European companies. Her programme also includes meetings with Meta Chairman Mark Zuckerberg and Apple CEO Tim Cook, as well as a visit to the Google campus.
