Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of security and diplomatic engagements on May 20, including a staff meeting on intelligence assessments, talks with Serbia’s president and a phone call with the United Kingdom’s prime minister. During the staff meeting, officials reviewed intelligence concerning possible Russian offensive operations in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction and discussed responses to a potential expansion of Russian aggression. Zelenskyy also spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić about bilateral relations, with both leaders expressing support for stronger ties and further cooperation. In a separate call with the UK prime minister, the two leaders coordinated positions on diplomatic efforts aimed at reviving substantive negotiations over Russia’s war against Ukraine. In an address, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was receiving indications that the European Union could soon open negotiation clusters for the country’s accession process. He also said Ukraine was closer to launching a European support program valued at €90 billion. Earlier in the day, he accepted credentials from the newly appointed non-resident ambassadors of Panama, Mongolia and Peru.
