Zelenskyy Reports Strikes Near Moscow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine carried out a large-scale operation targeting facilities in the Moscow region, with strikes reaching more than 500 kilometers from Ukrainian territory. In an address published May 17, he said the operation involved the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Security Service and intelligence agencies.

Zelenskyy said the operation demonstrated Ukraine’s expanding long-range capabilities despite the dense air-defense network protecting the Moscow region. He warned that Russian refineries, oil facilities and other enterprises could increasingly become targets as the war continues.

The Ukrainian president also reported strikes on facilities in Russian-occupied territories, including Crimea. He said Ukraine’s long-range operations were influencing international perceptions of the war and argued that the conflict was increasingly returning to Russian territory.

Zelenskyy further said Ukrainian forces had conducted more active operations than Russian forces over the previous 24 hours. He pledged to increase supplies of drones, unmanned ground vehicles, ammunition and other equipment, while announcing preparations for talks with European leaders and continued engagement with the United States.
