Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid tribute to 24 people killed in a Russian missile strike on a residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, according to a statement published by the Ukrainian presidential website on May 15. Three children were among those killed. The May 14 strike destroyed an entire section of the building, spanning the first through ninth floors. Search and rescue operations continued for more than 28 hours, while psychologists from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service and National Police assisted about 400 people. Emergency recovery work remains underway at the site. Ukrainian authorities said preliminary findings indicate the building was hit by a Kh-101 cruise missile manufactured in the second quarter of the year. The strike occurred during a nearly two-day Russian attack in which Ukraine said 1,567 drones and 56 missiles were launched.
